S&T Ukraine and Microsoft Ukraine complete state-of-the-art corporate Data Centres for JSC Ukrtelecom

Six state-of-the-art Data Centres for 30,000 corporate internal users successfully implemented

S&T Ukraine (S&T Soft-Tronik), together with Microsoft Ukraine, has planned and built six state-of-the-art corporate Data Centres for national telecommunications provider Ukrtelecom. The entire project was implemented in just 40 working weeks and provides Ukrtelecom’s 30,000 corporate internal users with completely new services.
Ukrtelecom needed powerful, up-to-date Data Centres due to rapid development of the company, expansion of the portfolio of services and optimisation of services planned for the future. As well, steadily increasing quality requirements meant that an upgrade of the existing IT infrastructure was necessary. Aiming to reduce costs and modernise, the two IT companies planned and constructed six high-performance Data Centres, one of which acts as the main centre while the other five are accommodated in Ukraine’s major cities. These Data Centres work as a unit and can serve more than 30,000 corporate internal users. Oleg Kopeika, Director of the Information and Perspective Technologies Department, JSC Ukrtelecom: “Indeed, fruitful cooperation of Ukrtelecom, S&T Soft-Tronik and Microsoft Ukraine enabled us implement our Data Centres. They are the key element of our newest infrastructure required to achieve our strategic goal set in 2003: development of new generation network. This is our reaction to the latest world trends: convergence of networks, services and terminal devices... Launched Data Centres enabled us create unified centre for services and network management.”

“All the major planning, design and implementation work was carried out by our experts at S&T Soft-Tronik. This is a showcase project that highlights the expertise of the S&T Group,” says Christian Rosner, CEO S&T AG. Consultants from Microsoft Consulting Services were involved in the design process and quality control.

More than 80 services

Ukrtelecom now uses state-of-the-art Data Centres that meet the latest global requirements. Based on a unique infrastructure, the Data Centres enable Ukrtelecom to offer new business and corporate services which can be automated within the company. The Ukrtelecom department of information and communication technologies, which was responsible for project implementation, already offered about 70 up-to-date services. Upon project completion, 13 more services are offered as per innovative Microsoft MSA 2.0 architecture requirements. Ukrtelecom’s approximately 30,000 corporate internal users now have access to services such as: network services, active directory, e-mail, an internal portal, options for integration, file access, data storage, data back-up and restore, databases, monitoring and management of the IT infrastructure, security, quality control and perimeter defence. According to Managing Director Iurii Lysetskyi, “S&T Soft-Tronik addressed a number of unique technological tasks: harmonising and modernising the IT infrastructure within a huge telecommunications company, developing an integrated information system based on cutting-edge technologies from the world’s best producers and setting up corporate services for more than 30,000 internal users. This project is one of the biggest ever for S&T Soft-Tronik. And the key point is that it has once again proved our leadership in implementation of the latest information systems on a national scale.”
