Imaging SystemsX-RayPhilips is the world‘s leading supplier of cardiovascular X-ray systems, and is number two in the market for general X-ray systems. Diagnostic X-ray systems transmit a beam of radiation waves through the human body in order to strike a piece of photographic film on the other side and produce an image. Philips also develops software for enhanced image processing and for use in systems with digital archiving and telenetworking capabilities.Computed Tomography (CT)CT is an X-ray procedure that uses a computer to produce detailed 2- and 3-dimensional pictures of all parts of the body.Magnetic Resonance (MR) ImagingMR is a technique that uses a magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to produce 2- and 3-dimensional images of body structures for radiology, cardiology and interventional applications. It is primarily used as a complement to CT as it is particularly sensitive to soft tissues, such as the brain and nerves.Nuclear Medicine and PET (Positron Emission Tomography)Nuclear Medicine uses agents that concentrate in specific organs or tissue on the basis of their biochemical or physiological properties. These agents can then be visualized using a gamma camera. Physicians use PET in conjunction with other diagnostic tests to assess certain cancers, cardiac diseases and brain disorders. Philips provides dedicated PET systems, as well as the only open CT-PET combination on the market and a dedicated gamma camera for nuclear cardiology. |
